Built-in tools from the two biggest phone makers don't solve this consistently. Android Police reported that using Google's Call Screen to auto-answer calls seemed to tip off spam bots that a number was active, driving in more calls, not fewer. Apple's Live Voicemail has the opposite problem: because it engages before a call is known to be spam, a scammer's message still gets recorded, transcribed, and dropped into your voicemail inbox. Either way, the mess doesn't disappear. It just changes shape.
Even the industry's own anti-spoofing standard falls short. Per TransNexus's own network tracking, only around 28% of calls arrive with full STIR/SHAKEN verification. The ringer utility's only job is local enforcement: it holds every call, including ones from your contacts, until our telecom-based system confirms the caller cleared, then it enables your phone to ring. As your phone's dialer, it does read your contacts and call log to show caller name and history, the same as any dialer, but it doesn't touch your camera, location, or any other personal data, and it doesn't mine, sell, or analyze anything it reads.
No system can stop a person who manually dials your number by hand, with no automated dialing system or spoofing technology behind them. That call looks identical to any other legitimate call on any phone network. This isn't a SpoofProof limitation, it's how telephone networks work everywhere, for everyone.

First of all, a phone app collects your data on your phone. That can end up on the darkweb, and absolutely has. Ask any Chatbot if any of the spam blocker apps have had data breaches or rumored passing of data to third parties. - What permissions does a phone app require you to approve? Think about that carefully. That should be a major concern. Your phone carries just about everything about you that scammers want to know. Also, with an app, you still have the calls coming to your phone and clogging it up with garbage. Apps and blocklists tag a number after the damage is done. Scammers spoof: they borrow a real, uninvolved number, often matching your own area code and prefix so the call looks local and familiar, and blast it to thousands of people in your area in a single day.
